In my opinion, the current medical model is catered to the care of acute illnesses, and for everything else, it's symptom whack-a-mole. To truly treat a person, we need to address the root cause of illness, whilst providing symptomatic relief. There are many illnesses that are misunderstood, or understood but treated poorly. I only highlight the invisible illnesses on this page, however even well understood conditions like type 2 diabetes needs a different model of care.
These illnesses have an unclear root cause, and there is ongoing research into their pathophysiology and management:
Chronic fatigue syndrome/Myalgic encephalitis
Fibromyalgia
Dysautonomia including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)
Mast cell activation syndrome
Long-COVID
Although there is no universally agreed upon management for these conditions, there are various treatments we can try, and supports I can organise for you.
